Last week was particularly significant for ESA BIC Andalusia and the entire space ecosystem in our region. We participated in three key events that reflect the growth of the space sector in Andalusia and our direct involvement in driving it forward.

  • October 1 | Seville City Hall – We joined the official launch of Space Week alongside institutional representatives such as Álvaro Pimentel and Josechu Ferreras.

During the event, the new website espacial.sevilla.org was unveiled, along with a comprehensive program featuring over 40 activities across the city, aimed at bringing the space sector closer to the public and inspiring scientific and entrepreneurial vocations.

ESA BIC Andalusia contributed with initiatives such as the “Entrepreneurship in Space: Opportunities from Andalusia” meeting and the open day Explora CATEC, two programs designed to connect talent, technology, and real business opportunities.

The event highlighted Seville’s increasingly solid position as a national reference in the space sector, thanks to the establishment of the Spanish Space Agency and the launch of our incubation center at the Naves de Renfe, operating in close coordination with the agency.

The message was clear: the future lies in space, and Seville is set to play a leading role.

  • October 2 | Málaga – We traveled to Málaga for the inauguration of the new Málaga Satellite Center, the first European laboratory specializing in mobile satellite communication, led by the University of Málaga.

This center represents a strong commitment to technology transfer and strengthens Andalusia’s role in developing high-impact space solutions.

  • October 5 | NASA Space Apps Challenge Sevilla 2025 – We closed the week by participating in the global NASA hackathon, where our manager, Gracia Catalina Piñero, served as a jury member.

Over 100 participants gathered at the Spanish Space Agency headquarters to propose innovative solutions to challenges posed by NASA—an impressive showcase of young talent and creative potential driving the future of the sector.

Three events, one shared vision: continuing to build an innovative, competitive, and internationally-minded ecosystem from Andalusia to space.
